Brent Gretzky: The Mediocre One

Though he shares the NHL record for Most Points Scored by Two Siblings (Wayne: 2853, Brent: 4), Brent Gretzky's most amazing accomplishment might have been his ability to grow up in the Gretzky household without absorbing - even through accidental osmosis - any proficiency for the game of hockey. Still, with 13 NHL games under his belt, he has managed to make a career out of lacing up the skates. Now playing for the Brantford Blast of Major League Hockey, he can add Allan Cup Champion to his long list of mediocre triumphs.

Is he the Most Mediocre Canadian? You decide.

No. There are 25+ Million Canadians who could not even score 4 NHL goals, myself included. That makes all of us more mediocre than Brent Gretzky.

Who's deciding who's spotlighted on this blog?

None of the mediocrities here--Dave Thomas, David Frum, and Brent Gretzky ('thought maybe you had to be named David to qualify)--have been mentioned at SDA, not an insignificant Canadian blog.

How about some of our inept chattering classes being featured here, like I'm Peter Mansbridge and You're Not, Jean-I'll-strangle-you-Chretien, Paul-deer-in-the-headlights-Martin, Joke Clarke, Justin-I'm-my-mama's-and-my-Papa's-boy-Trudeau, David-the-Moron-Miller, Taliban Jack, etc., etc.?

Let's heat this blog up a bit. Right now, it's pretty mediocre. 'Nothing much to see, almost time to move on...

It occurs to me that Wayne and his four siblings (including one sister) probably also hold the NHL combined points record for five siblings, as well, albeit one that goes 2853, 4, 0, 0, 0...

Poor Brent doesn't deserve this at all. He came, he was mediocre and then he went away.

Now, if you want consistent mediocrity - how about Brett Lindros?

This is a joke right? Brent Gretzky is the most underrated player ever to play pro hockey who never got his fair crack at the NHL! You want mediocrity? You got it....Eric Lindros, Markus Naslund, Scott Gomez, John Madden, Colin White (actually, Colin White is the worst as well as the dumbest defenseman ever to play pro hockey), Jay Pandolfo, Paul Mara, Blair Betts, Petr Prucha, Patrick Marleau, just to name you a few. I'd take Brent Gretzky over these chumps any day! Also, for your information, Brent Gretzky was, is, and always will be better than the 60% of the minor leaguers in the NHL right now!

unfortunately for Brent, he had high expectations placed on him. he grew up under Wayne's shadow and was always being compared to him. he may be 'mediocre' according to the standards imposed by public opinion, but at least he got to live the dream that many young boys have of playing in the NHL. give the guy a break will ya? How many goals have YOU scored in the NHL?
